Aromatherapy Of The Goddess II
“It’s coming on Christmas, they’re cutting down trees, they’re putting up reindeer, singing songs of joy and peace, oh, I wish I had a river I could skate away on.” To many people, this time of year, no truer words have ever been spoken or sung I should say, in a song that has long touched myself and many others, by Joni Mitchell (“River”, from the album “Blue”). This can be, for even the most well balanced, a very stressful time of year. I will admit to being a bit of a scrooge myself, I attribute that to twenty long Christmas Seasons in the Flower Industry. So many of us find ourselves alone, our memories of Christmases long past haunt us, and we struggle to find Joy and Peace. Others are overworked, underpaid, and the burdens of the expense, that Christmas has become, can be totally overwhelming. Well, enough with the gloom and doom here. Let’s find Joy and Peace!Aromatherapy can be a welcome relief for any of us, who find ourselves feeling the stresses that the holiday season can bring. Christmas is the season of giving, but if we can’t give something to ourselves, what can we give to others. If we can’t find Joy and Peace in our hearts, how can we share that and accept it when others give to us. Aromatherapy can often be just the answer, a fragrant bath can wash away all your tension. Some burning incense can make all your stress go up in smoke.
First, we need to bring the fragrance of the season to our homes. Think about the aromas you remember as a child, the aromas that bring joyous memories of Christmas. No, I don’t mean the Turkey in the oven. Cinnamon, Cedar and Pine come to mind. All herbs used for Healing and Purification. Each can be used to make great herbal incenses or in potpourri. Cinnamon is a very powerful herb used to raise Spiritual Vibrations, small wonder why the scent of Cinnamon makes so many feel good. It is empowering, induces Loving feelings, including a little Lust to some, and is great for drawing prosperity. Something we all need a little extra of this time of year. You will find Cinnamon in at least four of my Herbal Incenses - Abundance, Business Success, Passion and Spiritual Strength. Herbal Incense by the way, is the purest, most potent form of Incense you can burn.
Pine is great for purification and healing, just the presence of a Christmas tree in the home, makes the atmosphere seem that much brighter. Much of that has to do with the aroma of the tree. Pine is great for removing negativity. Cedar also is great for purification, healing and removing negativity. If you don’t usually have a fresh Christmas Tree in your home, for the holiday season, then fill your home with some pine or cedar branches. These can be found at your local florist or nursery.
When the day is long and you need some extra energy, Vanilla is a great scent for energizing and empowerment. Mix some Vanilla with Lemon Verbena and Musk, you have yourself a real energy booster. My Energy Potion # 3 is a blend of those three essential oils, it is also available in Aromatic Bath Salts and Bath & Body Oil. I particularly like to use the Salts or the Bath & Body Oil, when I have a evening out planned after a long day. It’s a great pick me up. Try keeping a dram bottle with you, when you know you are going to be putting in long hours. A variation on the Vanilla for energy and empowerment, is Power Potion # 21, a blend of Carnation, Vanilla and Musk. When you need a little extra boost of mental strength and courage, it does the trick. I like to take a bath in the Energy Potion # 3 Bath Salts and then use the Power Potion # 21 Bath & Body Oil after my bath. I mix my Bath & Body Oil with some moisturizer for extra soft skin. People are often amazed by my youthful skin, I just turned forty-two!
For Inner Peace I recommend Rose, Gardenia and Magnolia Essential Oils, Inner Peace Potion # 35. It helps to promote tranquility within, and makes stress easier to bear. Many of my products were developed out of personal need. I’ve been know to be a typical Type A personality, workaholic, from time to time. Thus, you will find that Of The Goddess Ltd. has a good selection of products for Relaxation, Stress, Sleep and Tranquility.
St. John’s Wort has been highly recommended these days for Depression, a common affliction this time of year. I read not long after developing one of my Incenses that the Aromatic properties of St. John’s Wort, were also good for alleviating depression. From Scott Cunningham’s Encyclopedia Of Magical Herbs, I quote, “If it is gathered on Midsummer or on a Friday and worn it will keep mental illness at bay and will also cure melancholy.” Strength and Power Herbal Incense is a blend of Pennyroyal, Gentian and St. John’s Wort. Pennyroyal and Gentian are also great for inner strength. This particular combination has a clean, woodsy scent when burnt as incense. When we think in terms of lifting depression, we think of strengthening our soul. Empowerment. Aromatherapy can go along way in terms of fortifying one’s inner self.
Lavendar is great Herb or Essential Oil in terms of Joy, Peace, Love and Tranquility. I keep Lavendar scented Potpourri in my bedroom on either side of my bed. It is said to be a scent that attracts men, by the way, but I use it mainly for relaxation and tranquility. It is in both my Love & Happiness Herbal Incense and Sweet Repose Herbal Incense. I like to place a sachet bag in with my clean sheets and towels, and also I keep one in each of my suitcases, so they don’t get that musty smell when stored. Tranquility Bath Herbal Bath, makes use of Lavendar in it’s Herbal form in a wonderful relaxing, sleep inducing blend with Chamomile, Hops, Passion Flower and Peppermint. Insomnia, is another of my afflictions.
For relaxation Lavendar Essential Oil is great combined with Rose, Magnolia, or Gardenia Essential Oils. Sweet Repose Potion # 16 is a blend of Rose, Lavendar and Magnolia and available in Aromatic Bath Salts and Bath & Body Oil, as well as the straight Essential Oil Blend. Rose is known as the Oil of Inner Peace. Each of the oils I have mentioned work great on their own as well as in a blend. Lavender, also has superior healing qualities, I like to use it on blemishes, and surface scratches. I actually prefer it to Tea Tree Oil for such things.
Peace and Joy come from with in. To some, they come easier than to others. When you set your mind to attaining Peace and Joy, you must begin by striving every day to be in that place. Happiness is a choice. It is a state of mind. It is a place that everyone should be in. After a while, when you strive each day to be in that place of Peace and Joy, you realize that you don’t have to strive so hard to attain them. For many of us, it is a simple matter of reprogramming. You can teach an old dog a new trick! And it is infectious. Practice coming from a place of Peace, Joy and Happiness, watch how others receive you, watch how they start to come form that place of Peace, Joy and Happiness also.
This is the season for giving. Give yourself permission to feel good. Help yourself to feel good. Aromatherapy is a great start. Come home each night, kick your shoes off, put some relaxing music on the stereo, light some candles, burn some incense. Take a relaxing bath, add a bag of Herbal Bath or some Aromatic Bath Salts, and finish it off with some Bath & Body Oil. Feel the transformation deep within your being. If you must feel bad, okay, cry a little, then pick yourself up, and move on. Don’t wallow in it. This is the season for sharing and giving, share your Love, give your Joy. It is the greatest gift you can ever give.
I remember reading in the Road Less Traveled a few years ago, by M. Scott Peck, “I am a totally selfish person, I give nothing to someone else, that I do not give to myself.” What a great sentiment. My nine year old daughter asked me last night as I was building tabletop fountains for an order, why I do what I do for a living. “Why do you make these things, Mommy”, she asked. I told her I do what I do because, it makes me feel good to create things of beauty, things that make other people feel good. To me there is no greater way to spend my life, no higher purpose, than to make and create things that bring Beauty, Joy and Happiness to other people. In that I give to myself, a great joy.
Aromatherapy Of The Goddess offers many of the combinations of Essential Oils and Herbs I have listed. All of our products are available for Retail Purchase as well as Wholesale to qualified resellers.
