Aromatherapy Of The Goddess III
It is a New Year and the final year of a century and a millennium. We have reached the final dawn hour of an epoch that we have all been waiting so impatiently for. And now as we move towards the new millennium, we all wonder what will it hold in store for us. We search for ways to make changes in our lives, we set our course on new beginnings with the onset of each new year. How can we begin anew with Aromatherapy? What can we take from the old, the ancient and use in our course for a new beginning this year. “New” of course does not just mean something current and fresh, it also means renewed, reborn, refreshed. So, in our quest for a “New Beginning” what better place to start than with Purification.
There are many great Essential Oils and Herbs available for just the purpose of Purification. Frankincense and Myrrh are the first that come to mind, when I think of Purification. Used for centuries by the Catholic Church as incense, this practice was actually taken from the ancient Goddess Traditions. Frankincense comes from the Middle East. Just recently the original Frankincense trail was found, showing the route of trade for Frankincense, long before the birth of Christ. The ancient Egyptians burned Frankincense to honor the God Ra at daybreak. It is an Herb of Masculine Gender, Ruled by the Sun and of the Element Fire. When burned, the powerful vibrations of Frankincense will drive out Evil and Negativity. It may also be used to aid in Meditation for Protection and Spiritual Growth.
Myrrh is a Feminine Herb, Ruled by the Moon and of the Element Water. The Egyptians used Myrrh in the temples of Isis and it was burned to honor Ra at midday. Myrrh, like Frankincense is highly vibratory, it is used for Purification, Consecration, Meditation, and the Blessing of objects such as Talismans, Amulets and Charms.
Clove can also be burned to purify an area. I rather like the scent of burning Clove, and powdered it burns well on charcoal. I do not however recommend burning whole Cloves.
Benzoin Gum is another great purifier. It is a Masculine Herb, that like Frankincense is ruled by the Sun. It’s Element is Air. You will find Benzoin Gum in our Purification Herbal Incense, combined with Holy Thistle and Thyme. The Greeks burned Thyme in their temples for Purification. This is a very powerful, ancient Purification blend, that has a clean fresh scent when burnt.
Copal is a resin that was used by the Mayans, for Purification and Love. It is an extremely powerful Herb, that is also great for banishing Negativity. It’s aroma is strong and can be overwhelming if over used. It is my personal preference over Frankincense and Myrrh. Mixed with other Herbs it increases the power of those it is mixed with. It is a Masculine Herb, of the Sun and it’s element is fire. Many substitute Frankincense for Copal, but the two have totally different aromas.
Lavendar Essential Oil can also be used for Purification. It makes a great Purification Bath either in it’s Herbal form, Essential Oil, or mixed with Sea Salt. Lemon Verbena can also be used in the bath for Purification in the same way as Lavendar.
Rosemary is one of the oldest Incenses from the Goddess Tradition. When burned, Rosemary creates powerful Cleansing and Purifying Vibrations. Cleansing with a Rosemary Infusion is advised before doing any healing work. It can be used in it’s Herbal Form in Purification Baths, or by mixing Rosemary Essential Oil with Sea Salt. Used in the bath in Essential Oil form, I would advise only using 2 to 4 drops at the most. Over use can cause discomfit to delicate areas.
When thinking in terms of Purification it is recommended to not only Purify your Home, but also your Mind, Body and Soul. This can be done by taking a Purification Bath and burning a Purification Incense. With so many great Herbs and Essential Oils available for this purpose, it is not difficult to find an Aroma that agrees with your personal taste. I suggest using a Purification Incense and Bath frequently. It helps to remove any negative energy that you may hold personally or might pick up elsewhere. When in doubt, purify. The presence of an unhappy or negative person in your home for even the briefest amount of time can leave lingering vibrations. Think of it as housecleaning after company.
In the beginning of a new year, many like to make New Year’s Resolutions. They maybe easy to make, but for some they are also easy to break. Keep yourself strong in your Resolutions by using Herbs and Essential Oils for Empowerment. Vanilla Essential Oil is favorite of mine for Empowerment. It is not only Empowering but Energizing also. Vanilla is a Feminine Herb, Ruled by Venus and is of the Element Water. Carnation is another great Essential Oil for Power. It is Masculine, Ruled by the Sun and it’s Element is Fire. You can find Carnation and Vanilla Essential Oils blended together with Musk Essential Oil in Power Potion # 21. I use Power Potion #21 on a daily basis. You will find that many of the Potions offered by Of The Goddess Ltd. are great for layering. Don’t be afraid to wear more than one Potion or Essential Oil, and to add a touch of your favorite perfume over your Essential Oils.
Change is always a good thing to focus on for the New Year. Change comes from within. A shift in attitude is always a good start. I like to come from the place of a Positive Attitude as often as possible. Sometimes that is not always easy. But, believe me, when you can keep your attitude in a Positive focus, the world is just plain a better place to live, for you and those around you.
Keep some Sweet Pea Essential Oil around for Happiness and Lavendar Essential Oil around to help ease tension and promote feelings of Happiness. Burn some Patchouli Herb to raise Positive Vibrations. I keep potpourri around my home in every room. I change it frequently and refresh it with Essential Oils on a regular basis. I use allot of Lavendar, as it is great for Relaxation and Promoting Happiness. Lavendar by the way, is a Masculine Herb, ruled by the Planet Mercury (great ruler of mental powers), and is of the Element Air. Ancient lore says that Lavendar scattered around the home will help to maintain a peaceful home. In the next couple of months Of The Goddess Ltd. will be introducing a line of Potpourri’s, that will include a couple of blends using Lavendar.I feel, that the next year shall be very interesting, in many aspects. As we reach the New Millennium, I hope that we each have come much further in our quest for a better, more peaceful way of life. Aromatherapy offers a medium that can be used on a daily basis for just that purpose. As we move closer to the New Millennium, many of us look back to the old. There is so much to learn from the Ancient Ones. There are many references in historical novels on the use of Essential Oils and Herbs by the Celts, Egyptians, Romans, Mayans, etc. The authors who write these historical novels do allot of research, and much of what I have read in historical novels correlates with my research. Personally, I feel, that my life has been blessed by my interest in Ancient Goddess Lore. That interest has grown into a Business and a way of life. I am happy to share with you what I have learned, and continue to learn everyday. I hope that you have gained some new knowledge from what I have shared. I look forward to next month when I will bring to you Aromatherapy Of The Love Goddess, in honor of Valentine’s Day. And, as always, I welcome any suggestions for topics or questions you might have.
Aromatherapy Of The Goddess offers many of the combinations of Essential Oils and Herbs I have listed. All of our products are available for Retail Purchase as well as Wholesale to qualified resellers.
