Aromatherapy Of The Goddess

By, Pamela J. Leavey

What started as a personal interest for me has grown into a Passion and a Business. In my effort to seek out Essential Oils and Herbs for personal use, I had many friends who constantly asked me to do so for them. I started to develop Blends for my use and my friends, thus the birth of Of The Goddess Ltd. Since I first started, I have added many products to my company, other than Aromatherapy. The majority of my Aromatherapy products are based on Ancient Wiccan & Goddess Lore, though some are based on more Traditional use. Interestingly enough, when you compare the Ancient Lore to the Traditional Lore, you will find that the apple does not fall far from the tree. After the first of the year, I hope to bring forth quite a few more products that have been in development. “It Is The Mission Of Of The Goddess Ltd. To Share For The Greater Good Of All.”

It is my belief, that knowledge is free. What I learn, I share with others. I have long lived by the creed that there is nothing I can not learn from someone else. Along time ago, back when I first began a twenty year career as a Floral Designer, I attended a Floral Design Trade Show. The commentator said to the audience of hundreds of Floral Designers, young & old,” When You’re Green You Grow, When You Are Ripe You Rot!” I hope I remain green throughout out the rest of my life!

The opportunity to create an ongoing series on Aromatherapy for Crystal Oasis Magazine is a pleasure for me. I hope you will learn from this first, of what I hope will be many monthly segments on Aromatherapy, and continue to join us each month as we all learn and share our knowledge.

With the Winter Season fast approaching, I have chosen to delve into the many wonderful Essential Oils & Herbs available for combating Colds & Flu.  The Ancient Wiccan and Goddess Traditions gave us a profound source for Aromatherapy. In my many years of research, I have found that many of what are now considered to be Traditional uses for Essential Oils and Herbs are actually most likely derived from the Ancient Lore and Teachings of Aromatherapy. Essential Oils and herbs were actually the first medicines used. The Egyptian and Greek Physicians were know to compound more than one or two substances to create medicines. Still today, many of our most common and well known prescription drugs are derived from Herbal and Plant sources.

This is the time of year that I keep my home well stocked with Tea Tree, Eucalyptus, Peppermint, Lavendar and Rosemary Essential Oils. A little dab of Tea Tree Oil on the tip of the nose will help to keep the nasal passages clear. Another dab on either side of the nose at the point of your sinuses, will help to promote the drainage of the sinuses. For a mild Ear Inflammation I use a bit of Tea Tree on a Q Tip. Lavendar and Tea Tree together will help to heal the dry, chapped skin you get from blowing your nose; I usually mix a little with some good Alpha Hydroxy Face Lotion. Either Lavendar or Tea Tree will also help to clear up blemishes. These days I have found that I prefer Lavendar.

We have all probably used Vicks Vapor Rub at one time or another. The real thing is far better. Eucalyptus Oil, mixed with a good carrier oil, rubbed on the chest will help to loosen a cough. I like to combine Eucalyptus with Tea Tree, Peppermint, Lavendar and Rosemary Oils for optimal effect. Although Lavendar and Tea Tree Oils can be applied directly to the skin, I do not recommend applying Peppermint, Eucalyptus or Rosemary Oils directly to the skin. They should be diluted in a base or carrier oil. Safflower and Grapeseed Oils make great base oils. I also do not recommend using Peppermint, Eucalyptus or Rosemary Oils in the bath. Even diluted with water, they are not recommended for use, particularly on delicate parts of the body. I once purchased a Bath Salt containing Eucalyptus Oil, the experience of using that Bath Salt was not a pleasant one. I do however add a few drops of Tea Tree or Lavendar to the bath. Both are great Antifungals.

Eucalyptus, Lavendar and Tea Tree Oils are all Antibiotic, Antiseptic, Antiviral and Antifungal. Peppermint and Rosemary are Antiseptic only. I Do Not Recommend Any Of These Oils To Be Taken Internally, nor to be used in place of necessary Doctor’s care. They are all very helpful in easing symptoms, but often we still need to resort to the Traditional Medicines of our time.

Herbal Baths, can be very healing and relaxing when one is ailing from a cold or the flu. My daughter likes to call them Tea Baths. A tablespoon or so, of some herbs in a muslin tea bath, can ease all sorts of ailments. Rue and Cinquefoil are great multipurpose herbs that are very healing. Combine those with some Peppermint, Rosemary and Nettles and you are on your way to easing a number of Aches and Pains caused by the Winter Season. Peppermint is also very relaxing and will aide you in getting the sleep you need to overcome colds and flu.

Peppermint Tea will help to loosen Chest and Nasal Congestion, along with easing an Upset Stomach. Add a little Mullein and Wild Cherry Bark, for tough Chest Congestion. Chamomile Tea is also great for Upset Stomachs and Relaxation. Remember to add Honey and Lemon to your tea!

There are many great Herbal Formulas available in Health Food Stores and Drug Stores for Colds and Flu and the prevention of. A regular regime of G, G, & E; Garlic, Goldenseal & Echinacea will help to ward off both Viral and Bacterial Infections. Try using these along with your favorite Aromatherapy.

I highly recommend Scott Cunningham’s, Encyclopedia Of Magical Herbs as a reference for Wiccan and Goddess Uses of Essential Oils and Herbs. The Complete Book Of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy, By, Valerie Ann Worwood is great resource for Traditional Aromatherapy.

Be sure to check back next month and see what the Goddess has in her vast store of Aromatherapy to share with us. If you have any Essential Oils or Herbs you would like to learn about please let me know. You suggestions and requests will be welcomed.

As always, I remind you, To “Be In The Moment... Go With The Flow.”
Bright Blessings,
Lady Pamela
