Lavender Essential Oil

Latin name: Lavandula officinalis. Family name: Labiatae. Lavender Essential Oil is distilled from the flowering tops of the plant and is primarily imported from France, Bulgaria, and England, although in recent years it is also grown and produced in the U.S., Australia and China.

Lavender has a sweet, fresh herbal scent and it has been used for centuries as both a fragrance and for natural healing.

In perfumery, Lavender Essential Oil is both a top and middle note and it blends well with most essential and fragrance oils including: citrus and floral oils, cedarwood, clove, clary sage, coriander, cypress, frankincense, geranium, juniper berry, neroli, oakmoss, patchouli, petitgrain, pine, rosemary, thyme and vetiver.

Circulation, Muscles, and Joints: Lavender reduces muscular tension, relieves pain, used to treat lumbago, rheumatism and sprains.

Digestive: Lavender aids digestion, for cramps, colic, diarrhea, dyspepsia, flatulence, nausea.

Emotions and Nervous System: Lavender balances the emotions, and it is calming, refreshing, and relaxing. It may be used to treat depression, fears, headache, hypertension, migraine, hysteria, insecurities, insomnia, moodiness, manic depression, nervous exhaustion, obsessive and agitated behaviors, PMS, panic, restlessness, sciatica, shock, trauma, vertigo, worry. Lavender also clears the head, increases mental alertness.

Genito-urinary: Lavender helps to restores hormonal balance, reduces cramps. Used to treat infections and cystitis. It helps in childbirth and may be used for dysmenorrhea and leucorrhea.

Respiratory and Immune System: Lavender may be used for asthma, bronchitis, catarrh, flu, laryngitis, sinus congestion, throat infections, tonsillitis, whooping cough.

Skin/Hair: Lavender can be used for all skin types. It assists in the healing of wounds and aids in the formation of scar tissue and helps to rejuvenate the skin. It can be used to treat abscesses, acne, allergies, athlete’s foot, boils, bruises, burns, cuts, dandruff, dermatitis, earache, eczema, inflammation, insect bites and stings, insect repellent, lice, psoriasis, ringworm, scabies, sores, spots, sunburn, wrinkles. Lavender also regulates the oil secretions of the scalp and helps repair damaged or over-processed hair. May be of benefit for hair loss.
